Sima Summit Part One

Those with a vested interest in Mount Sima in Whitehorse now know the financial state of the Great Northern Ski Society.

The first phase of a Sima Summit held Thursday night, attracted over 30 stakeholders to hear about the hill's history and operations.

Board Director Patti Balsillie says the meeting heard from Kevin Grogan who runs the year-round Vista Ridge Ski Hill in Fort McMurray, and has ran similar operations across Canada.

Grogan told the meeting, 42-percent of small ski facilities across the country need help to stay in the black.

Balsillie says the groundwork has been laid for next week's meeting, which will focus on coming up with operations, ownership and funding models.

Whitehorse Eagle Hatches

Whitehorse's eagles' nest is a little more full this long weekend.

One of the three eggs resting in the Millennium Trail nest hatched this morning.

The mom is keeping the little one warm amongst the rest of the eggs.

Yukon Electrical has set up a camera at the nest which you can view on their website.

ALASKA HIGHWAY REOPENS

The Alaska Highway west of Whitehorse is now open.

According to the Yukon 511 website motorists will encounter single lane traffic with flag control in the Mendanhall area.

Yesterday officials had to close the road after water started flowing over the Alaska Highway.

Highways and Public works continues to deal with water on the Campbell Highway in the Ross River area.

The road is closed from Francis Lake to Hoole River, however , access to the Wolverine Mine is still available.
