A Whitehorse RCMP officer was interviewing a witness regarding an incident that had taken place when the suspect being investigated came back to the scene and attacked.
A Whitehorse man is being charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer.
On Thursday the 18th, a Whitehorse RCMP officer was interviewing a witness regarding an incident that had taken place, when the suspect being investigated came back to the scene.
40-year-old David Malcolm allegedly assaulted the police officer, managing to disable the officer's portable radio and also attempted to disarm him.
Bystanders attempted to help by restraining Malcolm and calling 911, allowing for the situation to be resolved peacefully.
When police arrived to back-up the officer, Malcolm was arrested and taken into custody.
Malcolm has been charged with assaulting a police officer, attempting to disarm a police officer, uttering threats and resisting arrest.
The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital, while the people who helped out weren't hurt.
The RCMP says anyone who witnessed the altercation is encouraged to reach out to the RCMP and provide any extra details.
