The Ross River Dena Council are appealing the Yukon Supreme Court's decision on how hunting licenses are issued.
ROSS RIVER - The First Nation sued the Yukon Government on the terms of having a duty to consult the Dena Council on issuing hunting licenses in the Ross River area.
Last month, the court denied further consultation on hunting rules within the Ross River area.
Gord Zealand, Yukon's Fish and Game Association Executive Director said he was pleased with the original decision by the court, but now suggests he doesn't know what's next with this appeal.
"My initial reaction was a big sigh because obviously then there's more work and quite honestly I don't know what's all going to be involved now, in terms of the next steps." says Zealand.
"At the same time there's a general concern that if something changes, are we looking to move away from what we negotiated in the land claims agreement?"
Zealand adds that they would rather be working on this outside of court, instead of judge's making decisions , which he feels affects everybody.
