WHITEHORSE – Yukon RCMP arrested three people and seized cocaine related to two drug trafficking investigations around Whitehorse.
On the weekend of July 7-9, 2023, Yukon RCMP placed three people in cuffs and seized cocaine connected to two drug trafficking investigations in Whitehorse.
Following an investigation into cocaine trafficking in Whitehorse, the Yukon RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) arrested two people on July 7, 2023. Stuart Andrews, 25, of Rosthern, Saskatchewan, and Dorian Joshua Copeman, 20, of Regina, Saskatchewan, were detained in downtown Whitehorse by members of the Yukon RCMP Crime Reduction Unit after making observations around 4th Avenue and Alexander Street that were consistent with narcotics trafficking.
Approximately 21 grams of cocaine, packed for sale, and over $1000 in Canadian cash were recovered during the search of the two males and their car.
Both Mr. Andrews and Mr. Copeman were charged with the following offences:
– Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine), S.5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.00, S.354(1)(a) Criminal Code.
They appeared in court for the first time on July 8 and were freed with restrictions, including not returning to the Yukon except for court hearings. Their next court appearance is due at Territorial Court in Whitehorse on July 26, 2023.
The next day, July 8, 2023, Whitehorse RCMP Detachment general duty officers pulled over an unregistered automobile. Following an on-scene inquiry, the driver was discovered to be in possession of 45 grams of cocaine, as well as cash, scales, and other drug paraphernalia. His identity cannot be disclosed now but will be after his next court appearance.
