The first voice heard on CKRW’s airwaves, Ron McFadyen, passes away at 81
YUKON – The first voice of CKRW in 1969 has passed away at the age of 80.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our original and foundational members at CKRW. Ron McFadyen was the very first voice on the CKRW airwaves on November 11, 1969.
Ron was an integral part of CKRW for many years. He served as our News Director when we first launched and has been extremely important to Yukon Radio ever since.
Throughout his career, Ron exhibited an unmatched passion for radio and news. His dedication to his work and his genuine love for broadcasting were palpable. He was an esteemed figure in the community and held in high regard by everyone who knew him.
We are deeply crushed by this loss but will continue to honor Ron and his legacy at CKRW. For the next while, we will play Yukon Nuggets voiced by Ron. Our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace Ron, may your love for radio and the light you have brought to the north, live on forever.
