The Yukon Government is throwing regulations on the psychologist profession to try and ensure the highest quality of care is available
YUKON – Regulations are being placed on Yukon psychologists as the government looks to ensure the highest quality of service is available.
Starting in 2024, the Yukon Government will start to regulate the psychologist profession in the territory. This is said to ensure the highest quality of care is offered to Yukoners.
The government says these regulations will be a valuable tool for improving safety for Yukoners and help the long-term project to modernize the Health Professions Act.
The Psychological Society of Yukon, practicing psychologists, and regulators in other jurisdictions will be requested to examine the proposed policy direction, which would shape the regulation of psychologists and psychological businesses, as part of these efforts. This will assist in establishing uniformity with other jurisdictions and will serve to reduce potential hurdles to the Canada Free Trade Agreement. The new legislation also promotes an open, transparent, accessible, and equitable environment for people aspiring to be regulated health practitioners.
Regulated health professionals offer excellent, experienced treatment to Yukoners while adhering to the high standards and ethics of their profession across the country. If there are any problems, the psychological regulation will create explicit procedures for dealing with complaints and disciplinary concerns.
Those who offer psychological services and would like to submit feedback are encouraged to contact the Department of Community Services at PsychReg.Feedback@Yukon.ca through August 25, 2023.
