The Klondike Visitors Association is working on a plan to mitigate the consequences of limited seasonal lodging in Dawson City
DAWSON CITY – The summer tourism season is winding down for most communities in the Yukon and the Klondike Visitor’s Association is planning on mitigating the effects of seasonal accommodation.
The project by the Klondike Visitor’s Association is underway and follows an employer-centered rental model that’s set to run from May 2024 to October 2025. A renting model centered on the employer will relieve the lodging issues that local businesses confront when hiring new personnel.
In downtown Dawson City, the Village off King will comprise 10 partially furnished wall tents, restroom and shower facilities, and a cook shack.
The Village on King is expected to open as soon as possible, with a full season debut on May 15, 2024.
Originally scheduled to open in the summer of 2023, the new timeframe allows for finalization of permitting, building, and operational models. A full season beginning in 2024 will also help with preseason recruiting.
The Klondike Visitors Association, situated in Dawson City, Yukon, is a non-profit tourist sector organization that represents local and regional members as well as industry stakeholders. The Klondike Visitors Association’s mandate includes destination marketing, attraction operation, and the presentation of special events.
