WHITEHORSE, YT – A Draft of Yukon Ombudsman Jason Pedlar’s second report into a sexualized abuse case at Hidden Valley Elementary School has been released to the Department of Education.
The Ombudsman’s second report reviews the Department’s Safer Schools Action Plan and will provide recommendations on if it goes far enough to address and prevent the sort of communication failures that had occurred back in 2021, when parents were not informed of abuse allegations at the school in a timely manner.
The Ombudsman’s first report into the matter was released in early September, and found the initial complaint about the delay in notifying parents was substantiated. The Department of Education created the Safer Schools Action Plan following an investigation it commissioned by BC lawyer Amanda Rogers, accepting all recommendations made in the Rogers report.
The Ombudsman’s final report on the matter is anticipated to be released to the public in February, following a review period by the Department of Education.
