WHITEHORSE, YT – Yukon’s Conservation Officer Services is warning Yukoners that they’ve been observing open water and poor ice conditions on many of the territories lakes, rivers and creeks.
The COs say the freeze up is several weeks behind what we usually see this time of year, and warns that the Ice you do see may not be a stable as you’d expect
The service is asking Yukoners to exorcise extreme caution when travelling across frozen bodies of water and to remember to cross the ice one at a time. Conservation Officer Services also stresses the importance of keeping a safety kit on hand that includes throw ropes, a satellite communication device, and a dry bag with a change of clothes.
