Whitehorse, YT – The Yukon Government released an update on progress taken following a 2022 report from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada regarding the state of housing for vulnerable Yukoners showing a number of new actions to be taken.
The Office of the Auditor General work plan features 34 actions linked to nine recommendations regarding the report on Yukon’s housing.
The progress stems from the work plan released in 2022 and the territorial government says it’s made key advancements such as amending the prioritization system for the rent-to-income housing program, developing a social support branch quarterly housing report to inform programs and services improvements and updating third-party agreements in hopes of improving service delivery.
Other actions include collaboration with the Safe at Home Society for the development of more emergency housing options and the publishing of the Housing Action Plan three-year progress report for 2019 to 2022.
Many of the actions will happen in collaboration with Yukon First Nations in hopes of better serving individual communities access to housing.
