Whitehorse, YT – Next week over 350 athletes, coaches, cultural performers, and support personnel are heading off to the 2024 Arctic Winter Games in Mat-Su Valley Alaska.
The games take place from March 10th to the 16th and Team Yukon will be participating in 20 sports and cultural activities throughout the week-long event. Wrestler Leah McLean will lead Team Yukon as the flag bearer at the opening ceremony. The games are set to take place on the ancestral land of the Dena’ina and Ahtna Dene.
This year’s Arctic Winter Games will welcome close to 2,000 participants, with the Yukon Government contributing $585,000 towards supporting Team Yukon’s attendance. The territorial government says this event is significant in promoting sportsmanship, competition, and cultural exchange.
