Whitehorse, YT – Internet and cell service is back in the Yukon after wildfire activity in Northern B.C., Northwest Territories and Northern Alberta knocked both services offline.
Northwestel says they have repaired the fibre line north of Fort Nelson, B.C., where thousands are evacuating due to a fast-growing wildfire, resulting in a return to service in Northern B.C. and Yukon.
Intermittent internet issues in Yellowknife have been resolved and services in the Beaufort Delta region of the NWT are now restored with potential congestion.
Internet, long-distance, and mobility services remain affected in the Mackenzie Valley region of the NWT, including Fort Simpson, Nahanni Butte, and Fort Liard. Long-distance services may also be disrupted in all areas, including Nunavut.
