Whitehorse, YT – Last Wednesday, June 19th, Teslin RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision between an SUV and a truck with a fifth-wheel trailer on the Alaska Highway that resulted in the deaths of two Yukon women and three others.
Teslin RCMP responded to reports of the collision near Sequanga Lake at 1:30 p.m. last Wednesday.
Two Yukon women were found ejected from the SUV and were found to be deceased. One other injured adult from the SUV and two American citizens from the truck were taken by Emergency Medical Services to Whitehorse General Hospital.
The Yukon Coroner’s Service identified the two women as 43-year-old Martina Marie Sidney and 44-year-old Berdina Dorothy Hager. Both women were residents of Teslin.
Preliminary investigation suggests that speed may have been a factor in the incident.
Following the incident, the highway was closed before returning to single-lane traffic at 10 p.m. that night.
The Yukon RCMP and Yukon Coroner’s Service offered their condolences to the families and friends of Martina and Berdina and the community of Teslin.
