WHITEHORSE, YT – The Dempster Highway’s Arctic Red River / Mackenzie River Ferry has been closed for essential maintenance since Friday, July 5th.
The Northwest Territories Department of Transportation has confirmed the closure is due to a mechanical issue on-board the MV Louis Cardinal, and that specialized parts and labour needed to be sourced to complete the work.
The Department of Transportation has confirmed technicians had arrived on-site Monday, July 8th, to conduct the work. A final Transport Canada inspection is expected to take place late Tuesday afternoon, July 9th.
As a result of the ferry closure, the Dempster Highway is currently impassible to both northbound and southbound traffic at Tsiigehtchic, NWT.
