WHITEHORSE, YT – The Royal Canadian Air Force will be conducting Search and Rescue training in Whitehorse and the surrounding mountains, in collaboration with the Civilian Air Search and Rescue Association, starting Wednesday, July 10th. RCAF Crews from the 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron based out of Comox, BC, will be in town to test their skills in some real-world training scenarios.
Air crews will be conducting low-altitude flyovers with a CC-130H Hercules aircraft as crews practice search patterns. Parachute operations will be conducted as well, with colourful biodegradable streamers to be dropped from the aircraft as a way to determine wind direction before jumpers make their descents.
The Air Force has given the public the heads up that on training days they will likely notice an increase in air traffic in the region.
Possible training locations include:
• Joe Mountain
• Cap Mountain
• Mount Byng
• Mount Lorne
• Mount Lansdowne
• Mount Archibald
• Mount Martha Black
• Mount Granger
• Double Mountain
• Ibex Mountain
• Mount Arkell
The Air Force adds, all their training operations are carefully planned and closely monitored to ensure public safety.
