Whitehorse, YT – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recalled a series of plant-based beverages due to possible listeria contamination.
The affected products are being recalled from the marketplace and the public is told to throw out recalled products or return them to the location where they were purchased.
Contaminated products in 1.89-litre containers with best-before dates up to and including October 4th include:
- Great Value Almond Beverage Unsweetened Original
- Great Value Almond Beverage Original
- Great Value Almond Beverage Vanilla
- Silk Almond and Coconut Unsweetened
- Silk Almond Original
- Silk Almond Dark Chocolate
- Silk Almond Unsweetened
- Silk Almond Unsweetened Vanilla
- Silk Almond Vanilla
- Silk Coconut Original
- Silk Coconut Unsweetened
Contaminated products in 1.75-litre packaging with an October 4th expiry date include:
- Silk Oat Original
- Silk Oat Vanilla
- Silk Oat Dark Chocolate
- Silk Oat Unsweetened
- Silk Oat Unsweetened Vanilla
- Silk Almond and Cashew Unsweetened
- Silk Almond and Cashew Unsweetened Vanilla
CFIA warns that food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell off but will still make you sick. Symptoms include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches and neck stiffness.
The CFIA adds that you should contact your healthcare provider if you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product.
A food safety investigation is now underway which may lead to the recall of other products.
