Whitehorse, YT – “Yukoners are pissed – and rightly so,” Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai said in tandem with a strongly worded letter grilling Bell Canada for weeks of unreliable cell service across the territory.
For weeks, individuals, businesses and First Nations have had ongoing cell issues including frequent dropped calls and poor coverage.
A July 25th letter from Premier Pillai to Bell President and CEO Mirko Bibic reads “As the President and CEO of Bell Canada, it is your responsibility to ensure that cellular customers are receiving the services they pay for with minimal disruption.”
The letter further states that the current level of service has not met the expectations of Yukon residents and that the CRTC expects telecom providers to prevent outages and improve service reliability.
“In 2024, it should be embarrassing to telecommunications providers that Yukoners cannot have uninterrupted cell phone calls in the downtown of their capital city,” the letter states.
The Premier calls on Bell Canada to address these concerns and give a timeline so that Yukoners can be assured that work is being done to fix unreliable service.
The company stated it would take all of the concerns raised seriously and would work to resolve the network issues quickly.
