Whitehorse, YT – Yukoners can get one-month credit on their Bell bills following weeks of poor cell service and a back-and-forth letter exchange between Premier Ranj Pillai and Bell Media CEO Mirko Bibic.
Bell assured Premier Pillai that work was being done to improve cell service after receiving a letter from him on July 25th telling the telecom giant to “live up to their obligations mandated by the CRTC.”
The one-month credit comes after the Premier sent another letter on August 19th stating Bell’s service has not improved despite past assurances. Premier Pillai requested Bell compensate Yukoners who pay full price for substandard service.
This credit is only available to Bell customers. Those who use other carriers but rely on Bell-owned cell towers should call their provider and request similar compensation.
Bell stated they would not proactively tell their customers about the phone number to call.
Initial feedback from the phone line indicated that customer service representatives were unaware of the situation and unable to assist callers effectively. The Yukon Government says Bell has since fixed this.
Yukon-based Bell customers can call 1-(888)-883-0966 to request one-month credit.
