Whitehorse, YT – Team Yukon hit the ground running at the 2024 Canada 55+ Games with numerous athletes taking medals in the pool and track and field.
All 12 sports were in action during the second day of the four-day national multisport event.
In the pool six swimmers took medals. Maureen Wallingham snagged gold and silver while Therese Lindsay and Christine Cash also made podium appearances. Rosemary Lamb took silver and Jennifer Trapnell placed a bronze.
Track athlete Marcy Abrams won a 1,500-metre gold in her age category, Sheila Singer took two silvers and Rachel Grantham left with a bronze.
Helen Dewell bowled a perfect game on her way to take a gold medal. Bowler Sharon Smith also earned gold while Jim Newnham donned a bronze.
The slo-pitch team had tough matches with Ontario, twice, and Manitoba but lost their contests.
On the ice, the hockey team lost a hard-fought game against Ontario.
As of last evening, results were pending for pickleball, 8-ball pool, cribbage, curling, darts and golf.
