WHITEHORSE, YT – The Yukon RCMP have provided an update on their investigation into the home invasion, sexual assault, and motor vehicle theft in Mayo last week.
It’s now been confirmed that the man arrested in relation to the incident is 34-year-old William Dean Ryan Vaneltsi, who has no known address.
RCMP have confirmed Mr. Vaneltsi was arrested in Fort McPherson, NWT, but shortly after his arrest he became sick and was hospitalized in Yellowknife on Wednesday, October 22nd, where he currently remains under the custody of the North Slave Correctional Center.
RCMP are expecting to return Vaneltsi to Whitehorse to face charges once he’s been medically cleared to fly.
William Vaneltsi has been charged with Sexual Assault, Forcible Entry, Kidnapping, Unlawful Confinement, Assault with a Weapon, and Assault Causing Bodily Harm. He’s also facing the charge of Break and Enter for the purpose of committing an Indictable Offence, as well as two breaches of probation.
The identity of the victim has been withheld under a publication ban.
