WHITEHORSE, YT – Yukon’s Conservation Officers say they’ve resolved a case of moose meat wastage that was reported to them back in the Fall of 2022.
One person, who has not been named, had pled guilty to one count of Meat Wastage under the Yukon’s Wildlife Act. This person has also been charged with one count of littering under the Environment Act.
A $2000 fine has been issued, and this individual has been banned from holding a hunting license for two years. Conservation Officer Services says once the ban is up, this person will also need to take a Hunter Education and Ethics Development course before they can be licensed to hunt again.
COs say their investigation began on October 10th, 2022, after a number of people had reported seeing two individuals tossing parts of an animal carcass into the Takhini river from shore.
Upon investigation, Conservation Officers had recovered two complete sides of moose ribs, a backbone with edible meat still attached, along with numerous smaller potions of still edible moose. It was determined all parts had come from a male moose that had been harvested about a week prior by one of the individuals involve.
