Whitehorse, YT – Whitehorse launches its new curbside recycling service on December 3rd, providing biweekly collection of recyclables for households currently eligible for garbage and organic curbside collection.
Since November 18th, blue bins and bags have started being delivered to eligible residents by the City’s contractor Whitehorse Blue Bin Recycling.
“Recycling is a priority for the residents of Whitehorse, and we are pleased to be adding recycling to our curbside collection program,” said Mayor Kirk Cameron in a press release.
The service will cost residents $12.50 per month, with the Yukon Government covering half of the total $25 monthly cost through a two-year investment of up to $2.4 million.
This program temporarily fills a gap in recycling service as the territory transitions to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Monthly fees will be rolled back once EPR takes effect.
Non-eligible residents and businesses can use private services or the City’s Recycling Depot at the Waste Management Facility.
