Whitehorse, YT – Earlier this morning, CKRW broadcast a story on a proposed Land Treatment Facility (LTF) in the Alsek Valley and a petition that had gathered 400 signatures which included factual errors.
The story aired at 6 a.m., 7 a.m. and 8 a.m..
The story stated that the Champagne-Aishihik First Nation opposed the LTF which is not the case.
Petitioners had listed concerns including that high winds would move contaminants into sensitive areas and groundwater.
The LTF would serve to remediate contaminated sites without chemicals. The site will only be able to treat hydrocarbons which will be tested before being sent to the site and treated with bio-remediation. Groundwater testing wells will be created to test groundwater as a safeguard.
CKRW apologizes for the factual error and any inconvenience it may have caused.
