WHITEHORSE, YT – At the Whitehorse City Council meeting on Monday, December 3rd, Keith Lay on behalf of the Active Trails Whitehorse Association, had appeared before Mayor and Council seeking clarification on the city’s policy for the use of non-motorized trails.
Lay had disputed comments from a Council meeting on November 18th, when it was claimed that amending the city’s snowmobile to exclude their use on non-motorized trails would cause a ripple effect requiring other by-laws to be amended. Lay says the Active Trails Whitehorse Association would like to see both by-laws updated to contain the same language.
‘The ATV By-law includes non-motorized trails, greenbelts, and open spaces in it’s excluded areas section. ATWA is simply asking that these three excluded areas be included in the snowmobile by-law.’ – Keith Lay, Active Trails Whitehorse Association
Lay adds, the current municipal government had inherited a commitment made by the last mayor and council to address the concerns surroundings the City’s non-motorized trails.
