Whitehorse, YT – Yukon RCMP arrested an American traveler at Erik Nielsen International Airport last Wednesday after finding a handgun and ammunition in their checked bag according to police.
On Wednesday, January 8th, at roughly 4 p.m. the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority reported to the RCMP that they had located the handgun and ammunition in the traveler’s baggage.
Police arrested the man for offenses related to illegally importing a restricted firearm.
The man appeared in court on January 9th.
Police say in an email to CKRW that they don’t believe there was any risk to public safety.
