Whitehorse, YT – Yukon RCMP have charged a man in connection with a two-vehicle crash on the Alaska Highway that killed a deputy minister last summer.
RCMP say the collision happened on Aug. 2 at the intersection of Swan Haven Drive, when a southbound vehicle struck another vehicle entering the highway.
Deputy Environment Minister Michael Prochazka was killed. Environment Minister Nils Clarke was injured and taken to hospital.
Robert James Smallwood is charged with two counts of dangerous driving under the Criminal Code, as well as two counts under the Territorial Motor Vehicles Act — careless driving and driving at an unreasonable speed.
Police say no further information will be released while the matter is before the courts.
