Whitehorse, YT – A major landslide has altered the east bank of the Yukon River near Burma Road, covering roughly 20 hectares.
Yukon Geological Survey staff say the slide occurred sometime between May 14 and 18. It’s about 950 metres wide and 250 metres long, made up of glacial-era clay, silt and sand.
The slide extended below the riverbed, pushing up vegetation and earth several metres above river level.
Officials say the slide involved multiple types of ground movement.
