Whitehorse, YT – The Yukon Liberal Party selects a new leader – and the territory’s next premier – at a leadership convention in Whitehorse tonight.
Two candidates are vying for the leadership: Doris Bill, a three-term Chief of Kwanlin Dun First Nation and former broadcaster, and Mike Pemberton, a longtime businessman and former chair of the Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce and Yukon Development Corporation.
The winner will succeed outgoing Premier Ranj Pillai, who announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election as party leader.
More than 1,000 party members are eligible to vote at the Sternwheeler Hotel and Conference Centre.
Voting will take place using a ranked preferential ballot, with the winner needing more than 50 per cent of the vote to secure the leadership.
