Whitehorse, YT – Rainfall has slowed wildfire activity in central Yukon with wildfire crews saying they can now focus on containment, suppression and patrol work.
Yukon Wildland Fire says all evacuation orders in the Dawson and Mayo regions have been lifted as of July 15. Updates on wildfires will now be provided only when conditions or tactics change.
Four fires of note remain active near Dawson, including the Rabbit Creek and Sulphur Creek fires, both classified as out of control. The Quebec Creek and Mount Leotta fires are now being held.
In the Mayo region, the North Ferry Hill, Francis Plateau and Ladue Lake fires remain out of control. The largest, North Ferry Hill, is estimated at 13,000 hectares.
Officials say smoke may still be visible and conditions are being closely monitored.
