Whitehorse, YT – A young black bear was held overnight after being captured by conservation officers on a busy section of Whitehorse’s Millennium Trail yesterday.
Officers say a cinnamon-coloured black bear is still feeding nearby and more bears may be in the area. The trail on the east side of the Yukon River — from Robert Campbell Bridge to Selkirk Street — has been closed since July 21 for public safety.
The public is advised to avoid the area and use Lewes Boulevard as an alternate route. Officers continue to monitor the situation but have left the immediate site.
Anyone who see’s a bear near the trail is urged to call Yukon Conservation Officer Service’s TIPP line.
