Whitehorse, YT – Two American men were injured Wednesday when their SUV crashed into a stationary tractor-trailer in a marked construction zone on the Alaska Highway near Watson Lake, according to RCMP.
The collision happened around 3:13 p.m. at kilometre 1042. Police say the passenger was airlifted to Vancouver after treatment in Watson Lake and Whitehorse, while the driver was treated locally. The tractor-trailer driver was not hurt.
RCMP say construction crews, a medically trained traveller, firefighters and paramedics – who used the jaws of life – all responded quickly. Acting Detachment Commander Cpl. Curtis Harbour said their “outstanding teamwork” helped ensure the best possible outcome.
