Whitehorse, YT – Twenty Yukon wildfire fighters are in Saskatchewan helping battle blazes during what’s become a severe fire season in the province.
The crew, which left Whitehorse on Saturday, will be deployed for up to 19 days but can be recalled within 24 hours if conditions worsen at home. The Yukon government says fire activity in the territory is low and enough staff remain on duty locally.
There are currently 88 wildfires burning across the territory with six receiving a full response.
Community Services Minister Richard Mostyn says in a statement that Yukon is glad to lend a hand when it can.
