Whitehorse, YT – Got a phone call saying you won the lottery? Beware, it’s likely part of a wave of scam calls targeting Yukoners.
The Yukon Lottery Commission says they have received numerous calls from Yukoners saying they were contacted by scammers telling them they are lottery winners.
The commission states that they will never contact lottery winners by phone.
They say they have contacted the RCMP and are telling Yukoners to be vigilant if they receive a scam call.
Earlier this year, the Yukon RCMP also warned of fraudsters targeting seniors by pretending to be a grandchild in need of bail money.
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre provides guidance on spotting and reporting scams on their website.
