Whitehorse, YT – One person is dead and another injured after a pickup truck collided with a semi-truck on the Cantilever Bridge in Pelly Crossing late Monday night.
RCMP say the crash happened around 10:18 p.m. on Aug. 25 on the North Klondike Highway. The semi was hauling an oversized load with pilot car escorts when the pickup truck struck the trailer on the bridge.
The pickup’s driver, a Pelly Crossing resident, died at the scene.
A passenger, also from the community, was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital with injuries.
Police, the Yukon Coroner’s Service, EMS crews from Pelly Crossing and Carmacks, and the Carmacks Fire Department responded. The highway was closed for several hours and reopened around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
RCMP and the Coroner’s Service continue to investigate.
