Whitehorse, YT – Yukon recorded more than 11,000 criminal incidents in 2024 — placing the territory third-highest in the country for crime rate according to new figures from the Yukon Bureau of Statistics.
The territory’s overall crime rate dipped 1.5 per cent from 2023 but remains more than 21,800 incidents per 100,000 people. That’s well above the national average and only lower than Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.
Violent crime accounted for just over 2,300 incidents last year — about the same as 2023 — with assault making up the bulk of those cases. Yukon’s violent crime rate was more than three times the national figure.
Property offences made up more than hald of all reported incidents, while “other” Criminal Code violations — such as disturbing the peace and breaches of court orders — accounted for one-quarter.
The report is based on police data collected by Statistics Canada.
