Whitehorse, YT – Canadian alternative rock veterans 54-40 are back in Whitehorse this weekend and guitarist Dave Genn says the band is eager to reconnect with fans in the North.
“We love going up there,” said Genn in an interview ahead of Saturday’s show. “It’s just such an exciting, different place to go play. The people are so friendly, and it’s fun. I mean, it’s a fun town.”
The band is putting on a free show at Shipyards Park tomorrow as part of Lotteries Yukon’s 50th anniversary celebrations and plans to perform two unreleased songs from its upcoming album, set for release in October.
One track, ‘Go Get ‘Em,’ is described as a “call to arms for Canadians,” while ‘Running for the Fence’ Genn calls a straight-ahead rocker.
“We’re going to give the fans a sneak peek,” said Genn. “We’re really excited about it. We’re really excited to play new songs. It’s a it keeps things interesting for us and keeps us challenged.”
Fans can also expect staples including ‘Ocean Pearl,’ ‘I Go Blind’ and ‘Baby Ran.’
Local artist Bria Rose with Kris Moore will open before 54-40 hits the stage at 5 p.m.
