Whitehorse, YT – Yukon First Nations Wildfire has deployed a crew to help battle blazes approaching the community of Fort Providence, N.W.T.
The 20-person Skookum Unit Crew left Whitehorse yesterday morning and is expected to start suppression work tomorrow. They’re scheduled to return on Sep. 20.
Fort Providence was first under an evacuation order on Aug. 31, expanded on Sep. 1 to include remaining residents and essential workers. As of yesterday, the blaze was within a kilometre of the southeast edge of the community.
This marks the fourth time this season that many of the crew members have been dispatched to the N.W.T.
