Whitehorse, YT – No Yukon projects were included in the federal government’s first round of “nation-building” initiatives, but Premier Mike Pemberton says the territory could still benefit.
Yukon has pitched the Yukon–B.C. Grid Connect project as Ottawa moves to fast-track infrastructure to strengthen the economy amid U.S. tariffs.
“Our territory has huge potential and we are eager to work together with the rest of Canada to advance projects of national interest while ensuring Yukoners benefit,” said Pemberton in a statement.
The federal government has committed $40 million to assess the feasibility of the grid connection, which Pemberton says will bolster Yukon’s energy infrastructure and support the local economy.
Prime Minister Mark Carney’s initial “nation-building” projects focus on LNG, ports and mining.
