Whitehorse, YT – The Yukon Coroner’s Service is investigating after two workers were killed by a fire at the Brewer Creek gold mine camp 100 kilometres south of Dawson City on Friday morning.
Two seasonal workers from British Columbia, both 20 years old, died, and five others were airlifted to Dawson City Community Hospital for treatment.
The site, accessible only by air or boat, was scheduled to close on Saturday.
Officials say the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but foul play has been ruled out.
The coroner’s office is investigating with help from the Whitehorse Fire Marshal’s Office, the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board and Dawson City RCMP.
