Whitehorse, YT – The Yukon Liberals will be the only party not running a full slate in the territorial election.
The party will contest 18 of 21 ridings, with no candidates in Copperbelt North, Klondike or Kluane.
Nominations for candidates closed yesterday, and Elections Yukon says no late or incomplete applications will be accepted under the Elections Act.
During the election call announcement, Premier Mike Pemberton said he waited until the last possible day to call the election, partly to give his party more time to prepare.
“There’s no way that you can put a team together in two months. I think we’ve proved them wrong,” said Pemberton. “This is an amazing team, you know, so the time we took was to build this team.”
When the election was called on Oct. 3, the Liberals had 15 of 21 candidates confirmed.
Both the Yukon Party and the NDP announced last week that they had completed their slates.
