Whitehorse, YT – The Yukon Liberals’ electoral platform includes some notable overlaps with the pledges from Yukon’s other political parties but the Liberals argue it’s their experience that sets them apart.
Key promises included in the party platform, released last Thursday, include a $300-million expansion of Whitehorse General Hospital and a plan to cut the government housing waitlist by 90 per cent.
The Yukon Party has proposed adding more than 40 beds at Whitehorse General, while the NDP has pledged eight new medicine beds, four new operating rooms, and 100 new Yukon Housing lots.
Liberal Leader Mike Pemberton told reporters that the party’s nine-year track record distinguishes it from rivals, even on shared policy goals.
“The big separation between us and the others is that we’ve done it over the last nine years,” said Pemberton. “Look through our platform, look at the amount of work that has already been done.”
Some Liberal candidates expressed support for elements of Yukon Party or NDP policies but framed their party as offering a more centrist approach.
