Whitehorse, YT – Voter information cards have been mailed to all 35,684 registered electors in Yukon ahead of the upcoming territorial election.
The cards include details on where and where to vote, voting options and plebiscite information were sent out Monday morning through Canada Post. Some cards destined for Whitehorse may face minor delivery delays due to the ongoing rotating postal strike.
Chief Electoral Officer Maxwell Harvey says the cards are an important communication tool but the postal delays shouldn’t prevent anyone from voting.
“The voter information card, although it can be used as a secondary form of identification, it’s really primarily an information document and that same information is available online.”
Electors can download a digital voter information card at the Elections Yukon website.
Early participation appears strong, with about five percent of voters, roughly 1,700 people, already casting special ballots.
Voters can apply for and submit special ballots at any returning office until Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
Advance polls will be open Oct. 26 and 27 at multiple locations, including a special poll at the Elks Lodge in Whitehorse, where voters from any district can cast their ballots.
Elections Yukon encourages voters to bring their voter information card to the polls for faster service.
