Whitehorse, YT – The leaders of Yukon’s three political parties are speaking out against a recent spike in stolen and vandalized campaign signs ahead of the Nov. 3 territorial election.
The attacks on signs are reportedly happening “almost daily.”
In a joint statement, the party leaders say attacks on signs chip away at the democratic process and stressed that every candidate deserves respect for putting their name forward.
“We understand that elections can bring out strong emotions and disagreements – that’s part of healthy debate,” reads the statement. “But there’s no place for destruction or intimidation in that conversation.”
The leaders urge Yukoners say elections should foster debate, not anger.
