Whitehorse, YT – The Yukon NDP is criticizing the Yukon Party for accepting political donations from companies with foreign ties.
Records show MacMillan River Adventures Ltd., whose board of seven directors includes Donald Trump Jr., gave $1,000 in 2021. Another U.S.-linked company, 45325 Yukon Inc., donated $5,000 in 2021 and an additional $2,400 in 2024. Other foreign-linked companies, including Worldwide Trophy Adventures in Australia, contributed $3,000. Many of these donations were listed as Yukon-based.
In a statement, NDP Leader Kate White is pushing for a ban on corporate and union donations.
“This raises very serious questions about who is funding the party and what kind of influence these foreign donors have,” said White. “This is yet another example of corporate donations influencing Yukon politics.”
The Yukon Party says all contributions are disclosed under the Yukon Elections Act and publicly available. A party spokesperson says they support reviewing political financing rules, including possible limits on foreign donations, but emphasized any changes should be made collaboratively.
The Yukon Party spokesperson adds that they should address unreported “Other Revenue,” including a loophole that allows blind donations at rallies, meetings and events.
