Whitehorse, YT – Several major roadways in Southern Yukon are closed this morning because of severe winter conditions.
The South Klondike Highway is shut down between the U.S. border and kilometre 80 due to blowing snow, black ice and a rock slide near kilometre 58. The road is expected to stay closed overnight while crews work to reopen it.
The Alaska Highway is also closed from Champagne to Silver City because of freezing rain and extreme icy conditions.
Haines Road is also closed between kilometres 193 and 245 for the same reason.
Yukon’s Department of Highways and Public Works says updates are expected later today and reminds drivers to check 511Yukon for the latest road conditions.
