Whitehorse, YT – Yukon and parts of northwestern British Columbia are getting hit with extreme cold conditions, with wind chills expected to hit as low as minus 50.
Environment Canada warns that frigid temperatures will affect Whitehorse, Teslin, Dawson, Mayo, Pelly-Carmacks, Beaver Creek, Faro-Ross River, Kluane Lake and Haines Junction through tomorrow night.
Areas including Atlin, the Cassiar Mountains and Watson Lake could see wind chills near minus 45 into Friday morning.
The weather office warns that frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin and urges residents to watch for shortness of breath, chest pain or numbness. Residents are advised to cover up and limit time outdoors.
