Whitehorse, YT – The Yukon Federation of Labour is pressing the territorial government to set a timeline for extending presumptive cancer coverage to wildland firefighters.
Wildland firefighters face toxic smoke on the job and while municipal firefighters already have cancer protection, wildland crews do not.
Premier Currie Dixon told reporters last week that his government remains committed to implementing the measure as part of their broader agenda in the spring.
The federation is calling for clear timelines, parity with municipal firefighters and stronger accountability at the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board.
