Whitehorse, YT – Yukon RCMP say cases of impaired driving were higher last year compared with 2024.
In 2025, officers recorded 757 impaired-related incidents, up from 723 the previous year. Charges were laid in 213 of those cases. Alcohol remains the main factor, though drug-impaired driving and refusals to comply with officers also contributed.
“Driving sober saves lives,” says Inspector Graham Gurski, District Operations and Support Services Officer, in a statement. “We continue to patrol and enforce traffic laws across the Yukon to keep impaired drivers off the road and ensure safer travel for everyone.”
The RCMP adds that they have made progress last year against organized crime, drug trafficking and property crimes across the Yukon.
The Crime Reduction Unit launched 41 investigations targeting drug activity, resulting in 27 people charged, 30 firearms seized, and hundreds of grams of cocaine, meth and other drugs taken off the streets.
In Whitehorse, property crime initiatives led to more than 145 arrests and over $190,000 in stolen property recovered. Outside the city, officers seized about 2.3 kilograms of drugs, four firearms and nearly $7,600 in suspected crime proceeds.
