Whitehorse, YT – The new biathlon facility on Grey Mountain has been completed just in time for the Arctic Winter Games.
The roughly $3.8 million project began last June and was completed this winter, finishing slightly ahead of schedule despite a tight timeline before the Games, which kick off on March 8. The total is higher than the initial estimate of $2.9 million announced in early 2025.
The new building includes showers, a change room, and areas for athletes, officials, and the public.
MP Brendan Hanley highlights that the facility opens up a variety of possibilities for biathlon in the territory beyond the Arctic Winter Games.
“To have a warm facility, a place for all the athletes to gather, a place for the media, a place for the people who want to watch the events,” said Hanley. “I mean, it’s transformative, and I think it’s transformative for the future possibilities for Yukon and Canadian athletes in the biathlon world.”
Biathlon Yukon president Bill Curtis says the new facility not only improves space for athletes, coaches, and volunteers, but it strengthens the ability to host regional and national competitions.
