Whitehorse, YT – One person is dead after an avalanche near the community of Atlin, B.C.
RCMP say they received a Garmin SOS alert Sunday afternoon from near the Klehini River, roughly 500 kilometres from Atlin, reporting an avalanche with one person unconscious and CPR in progress.
Police worked with Atlin Search and Rescue to reach the scene by helicopter due to the area’s remoteness. Responders then confirmed that one person had died.
Five people were extracted, including four who were not injured.
The incident came the same day as another deadly avalanche near Terrace, B.C., where RCMP say three heli-skiers were killed and another was seriously injured.
